V for Alliteration

"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V"

In 30 years without spanking, are Swedish children better behaved?

I thought of you :)

Stockholm – When celebrating the 30th anniversary of the world's first national ban on corporal punishment of children last month, Sweden's social affairs minister, Göran Hägglund, claimed a dramatic success over something many Swedes now consider a scourge.
"Colleagues from other countries often ask how we manage to raise children here without hitting them, but it works," he said. "Many countries have followed our model but we still have a way to go."
Sweden was the first of 24 countries to introduce a ban on smacking children in 1979. At the time traditionalists said it would lead to unruly kids, and other critics say the ban would be largely unenforceable. But according to official figures, just 10 percent of Swedish children are spanked or otherwise struck by their parents today. More than 90 percent of Swedish children were smacked prior to the ban.
It is held up as a model by child rights campaigners lobbying for wider adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, on which the Swedish law is based. The campaign experienced a setback last month when New Zealanders voted to repeal their anti-smacking law in a hotly contested referendum. The law places a legal obligation on teachers, day care workers, and health care professionals to report any suspicion of abuse. This has led to a surge in the number of reported cases, yet the proportion of serious cases of abuse has decreased.
"When there is this moral standpoint that you should not use any violence against children, it influences the more severe kinds of violence," says Children's Ombudsman Fredrik Malmberg.
Spare the rod, spoil the child? Polls show the ban has near universal support in Sweden. However there is a vocal international movement against the Swedish model.
"In Sweden parents are afraid of their children. They don't dare to correct them for fear of being reported," says Ruby Harrold-Claesson, chairperson of the Nordic Committee for Human Rights, a Scandinavian-based lobby group fighting for the repeal of anti-smacking laws.
"It is a crime to smack a child," she adds. "But children constantly test the boundaries of how far they can go - and if a parent always has to back off then the children take over."
Mrs. Harrold-Claesson, who contributed to the campaign to repeal New Zealand's smacking law, claims the law is causing a crime wave in Sweden by preventing parents from controlling their children.
Mali Nilsson, at the international charity Save the Children, denies the ban has increased crime. She cites official figures from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention indicating that youth crime has decreased in Sweden since the mid-1990s and violent crime has remained static.
She says that smacking is a human rights issue.
"If you get upset with me about something you don't have the right to hit me, do you? Then why shouldn't children enjoy the same rights?" she says, adding that the main purpose of the Swedish law is to change attitudes.
"The law does not actually lay down any legal punishment for smacking but requires social workers to support families with problems. There's been no increase in parents drawn into the criminal justice system or of children taken away from their families," she adds.
However research carried out earlier this year points to a slight uptick in the number of parents who say they smack their kids over the last decade.
Professor Staffan Janson, one of Sweden's leading child health experts, attributes the change to the country's relatively high level of immigration, as well as the influence of foreign, often American, TV shows offering parenting advice.
"Parents who are not sure how to discipline their children can find it easier to adopt the simple message that you get quicker results by hitting them."

The Fall Folk

Autumn is for spoiled rich kids and poets- fall is what the rest of us have to deal with. Autumn is the crisp walk through the meadows with a box of Crayola crayons worth of colors to enjoy and soak in for hours on end. Along with the changing colors of everything around you the inspirational migrations of animals brings you to a deep insight of how the circle of life is constantly moving, elaving you dreamin of the oncoming spring. Autumn is the time of celebration to mark another successful harvest of our labor filled summer that can be spent together with a loving family over a steaming plate of delectable finely made food.

Fall fails.

Fall, for the rest of us, is cold, grey and dead.

My color palate for fall is primary; yellow. The trees are yellow, teh bushes are yellow, and the grass is yellow. the only thing orange anywhere near my house is the slide in teh local park down my street that is covered in tags from the most recent middle school kids that thought they were in a gang. even then teh orange of the slide isn't really an ornage but more of a tiger print when you squint your eyes with all of the black lines running across it.

Fall's migration of animals is basic too; the good stuff leaves, the bad things only get closer. even the autumn people know that the cool thigns leave. Bears go and hibernate, deer get shot, bald eagles take a vacation from the nation that made them famous, turkeys show up on your plate, and even whales get out while they can. These spokes-animals for autumn know when things are going down hill fast; and they get out. they take their song singing, camper mauling, fether flapping, blow hole blowing, butts out of fall as soon as is it gets close. Us fall people get stuck with the things that are either too dumb or too lazy to get out.

We get cockroaches.

During spring and summer it's not too bad, they stay on their sdie of the walls, and you ocasionally get a visitor here and there to freak out your sisters with. during fall the entire cockroach community int he square mile aroudn your house deicde to take residence in your room because it's the only place warm enough for them to live.

Long walks through meadows? only for those autumn folks, us fall people have to deal with school. When school starts your first reaction is- hey this isn't too bad, it's sunny, I can still be happy, I'll do all of my homework and turn it in on time. Then fall comes around. things turn yellow, the cockroaches stake their claim and start to colonize your closet in the name of her royal highness, and we're stuck with homework.

I don't know what school the autumn people are going to, or who they're getting to do their homeowrk for them, but even in kindergarten I was too busy with school to find a decent time to take a walk around the block to take a slide down the tiger slide, let alone a pastoral stroll through groves of trees. I was busy. I had to write the alphabet five times before the next day, and that's hard to do when you can't remember if LMNOP is two letters or three. Now days, my long walks browsing the colors of the seasons are limited to long walks around the shelves of the library enjoying the dull autumn yellows of the older books while I try to stretch my legs before I have to write the alphabet five times in Swedish.

Celebrating our harvest and hard work through thanksgiving with friends- it sounds great when those autmn people talk about it; but then the fall folk dive into the fun. Thansgiving is a lie. Autumners want you to believe that Thanksgiving is a celebration of a job well done over the summer. Who has ever done any job well during the summer? The annoying work that you have to put up with is just starting when you're celebrating not having to work any more. Thanksgiving to the fall folk is throwing a party to celebrate a lie. you're not done with work, it's just starting.

Friends, family, and food; the divine trinity of autumn festiviites- the axis of evil of all fall feuds. Nothing says famillies are forever like locking up poeple that haven't been with each other for a week in the same house. autumn people play football and come closer together as they bond as a family; fall folk remember that Uncle Rowland is creepy even when you're an adult and he says that he wants to play touch football with you. Autumn people go to grandma's for a feast, fall folk have had at least one Thanksgiving at Denny's after the turkey was still froen at eight in the evening.

Even if fall is dark, yellow, cockroach infested, with homework due, and the constant threat of Thanksgiving happening, there is one thing that the autumn people are missing. Fall folk enjoy everything. We don't care about the tiger slide, we love it. The cockraoches become a weird sort of frienemy that we have turf wars with when we have nothing else better to do. Thanksgiving we look forward to just to watch how much it won't be like yours. We learn the waiters name at Denny's and invite Robert to eat with us the next year. We do our homework and pass the class while you're failing it from your walks our in nature. Your trees take hours to color, while our world only takes one crayon and then we can get on with more important things. You can have your autumn, we'll stick to our fall.

Oh, and by the way. . .

So I hunted around and found the template for what we need for the address labels.

http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Search/_/?dimsearch=false&N=0&Ntk=SoftwareAndTemplate&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=0&Nr=AND%28SITESCHANNELS%3AAvery.com%2COR%28ContentType%3AAVERY-SOFTWARE%2CAND%28ContentType%3AAVERY-TEMPLATE%29%29%29&Ns=Rank%7C0&Ntt=5195
It's a bit down on the list, and you can download everything you need right there. It's already set up for you, you just type in what you want to see in each one of them.

That's one down, one to go.

My hunting

http://catchphoto00.blogspot.com/

Already in Vegas, full wedding day coverage, member of the church, all digital pictures that she will give us a coppy of on a DVD once everything is said and done and then we are allowed to print what we want from there. On top of that, once everything is said and done part of the package is that we select 3-4 pictures for her to digitally retouch and make look even more professional. (have her phone number as well if you would like to talk to her in person about her work or what we would expect from her on the day)

All of that $500

From that point we can decide to either print them ourselves or have her print them for us. It's not the photo book that you really want, but I wonder if we came to her with pictures of her own that we could get her to put the book together with those.

Either way, there we go for my hunting today.

Cake- the question I have is how big do we want this cake? How many people are we going to have eating this cake because all of the places that I talked to today wanted to know serving sizes, and I still don't know the rough guestimate that we're running for that.

photography

This photography said she would travel down and do our wedding. Look at her website and see if you like her pictures, I like them and I think she is good, and cheaper than anyone else I have found in vegas.

Thank you!

No, but really, I went in talked to the guy and he said that it was nothing to worry about. He tried to say that it was just a discolloration and some weird stuff like that, but as long as it's not cancer, I'm okay with it. He didn't run any tests, he didn't think it was worth worrying about and he just sadi that if it changes shape ever to come in and have it looked at.

An Arranged Proposal

An Arranged Proposal
In BYU culture it has always been a focus to propose and get married. It is a joke that women come to get their MRS along with their BS or BA. Stress is placed upon both sexes to get married and to make a family. It has been told by general authorities to BYU students to get married and to start having families. During these economic times it’s hard to find the motivation to get married for many students. Men don’t have the money they would want to take women out, women don’t have the money to get ready for a wedding, and those who are lucky enough to hold a job work extra hours to keep their job and pay for the essentials of life.

Even though these horrible economic times lead to less dating, courtship and proposals, there is still the constant of the BYU dating scene, FHE groups. Family Home Evening groups are set up by the bishopric of the local wards which allow the men and women of their wards to mingle with each other once a week in a purely spiritual setting that is meant to bring all closer to God. Due to dating not being finically sound by many BYU students FHE has been a staple to meet and to date individuals. The simple solution to this during these trying times is to skip the time of going to FHE, of trying to date, and just allow the bishoprics of the hundreds of BYU wards to plan marriages for men that are twenty four years old and women that are twenty one.

Planned marriages set up under this system would follow much of what current culture as well as doctrine prescribe for the BYU student and is the next logical step in the progression of proposals in the Provo valley. Not only does planned marriegs provide a logical progression from the current social situation, but through this simple solution more time would be available to BYU students for education or employment which would help regress the current economic trends.

This proposal to eliminate proposals would make life easier for both men and women. Currently the men of BYU have to first find a prospective date, gain the gumption to ask her to a first date which has to be entertaining, creative, and exciting, while yet still being romantic but not too much, which only creates a pattern that has to be followed by any subsequent date. Long gone are the days that men are allowed to go over to a woman’s apartment, talk with them for a few hours while playing a game or watching a television show and calling that a date. Even the most simple date of dinner and a movie at the local dollar theater is looked down upon. With planned marriages men would not have to spend their time on such frivolous activities like planning an elaborate date, and money would be saved as well which would only strengthen the economy that is in need of dire help.

With men, not only do planned marriages allow more time for studying and work as well as more income, but it also provides relief to emotional stress. With planned marriages men no longer would deal with the fear of saying something offensive, rejection of any sort, or the dreaded breakup. To many interviewed about planned marriages in nations where they have already implemented it, one unconsidered benefit for men is that they are allowed to remain immature until the marriage, living life as they will, where at that point they are expected to grow up. Men don’t enjoy growing up, even the oldest man still acts like a teenager when he is allowed, and the inaction of planned marriages would only allow men more time considered as the prime of their youth.

For women the problems that planned marriages solve are even more advantageous than the men of BYU. Such drastic savings would include the lack of having to search through numerous outfits daily. The average woman takes an hour and a half to get ready for a normal day, however when told that they do not need to impress anyone the time changes to only fifteen minutes. That is an astounding seventy five minutes that would be saved daily that could be used for work or education alone, in a year’s time over twenty seven thousand minutes would be saved by the average woman.

With the lack of dating at the BYU culture, there would be a lack of interrelationship complications, which would save time and money of roommates and ultimately the entire Brigham Young University. Interrelationship complications are typically created by a lack of communication between a boyfriend and girlfriend where the girlfriend becomes upset at the boyfriend for a lack of communication or a severe lack of attention. The result of an interrelationship complication usually results in a woman talking to their roommate(s) for an extended period of time of no shorter than one hour, which in during that time they cry, yell, and chocolate in one form or another is consumed in some cases. With the lack of dating, time and emotional effort would be saved not only by the first woman but by her roommate(s) as well, which could again be used in a more productive light.

For women the planned marriage age of 20 would allow them to start school, and progress through enough of it to gain an emotional gratification of their attempt, as well as stopping them from the worries of going on a mission. A mission for women is purely optional, and in an economy as bad as the current situation we can not afford women to be leaving for eighteen months to contribute nothing to the economy. Not only does a mission served by women hurt the economy through the lack of production, but the amount of hours given by MTC employees, Church headquarter officers, mission presidents, district leaders, zone leaders, and others could be spent on more productive measures. Where before the economy was able to handle the loss of thousands of productive women, during these times we need the women to remain without the title Sister, and be productive in the home.

Another reason that planned marriages would be very popular in the Provo Valley is that currently fast proposals and quick engagements are already part of the culture. It is part of the BYU culture to date a person and be married to them within a few months. This is due to the fact that BYU students are already economically minded and understand the importance of shortening the period of courtship which is not as important as the actual marriage. Through planned marriages the BYU student would only be taking this aspect of current culture only one step further, which would only help the economy that much more.

Planned marriages at BYU would also gain the support of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who has released a statement saying that there is no scriptural backing for the elusive ‘soul mate’ that so many BYU students are attempting to find. The official statement from President Spencer W. Kimball which was originally given during a BYU devotional was re-released in the Liahona’s October 2002 issue. President Kimball states, ““Soul mates” are fiction and an illusion. . . it is certain that almost any good man and any good woman can have happiness and a successful marriage if both are willing to pay the price.” President Kimball in the same article states, “the selection before courting and then the continued courting after the marriage process are equally important, but not more important than the marriage itself, the success of which depends upon the two individuals”

President Kimball is quoted here to say that courtship is not as important as a marriage, and that marriage itself is obtainable by any two individuals that are willing to pay the price. I would dare to say that the general population of BYU is willing to pay that price and the resulting economy would be able to pay that investment back with interest.

this is what i know

hey i just wanted to tell you that i finished my paper today while i was in class and she gave me an extention until thursday so i have time to make it better. the walden paper i wrote a couple of weeks ago she said was my best paper of mine she has read so i was pretty happy so yay for the A on that. I know that we dont write on our blog like this but i just wanted you to know now and not have to wait until later to tell you, partly for fear of losing the guts because yes i can talk to you all day long but i still get nervous when youre right in front of me. adam, i love you so much and i love our plan, i love what we are doing, i love how we work and how i can only talk to you about how hard all of this is for me right now. i just want to be the best person i can be for you so you feel like this is really what you want to do, and when things get hard and i feel like this, i dont what you to leave, and you did help last night but reassuring me that you wont leave and you do want to marry me, and i know this, i know that you are the only man i am ever supposed to be with, i know this more than anything else, that is one stable aspect some days, but i know our plan is what makes sense and really when i think about our plan and waiting, its really the only time i do have peace in my day, i know i can be difficult some days about it, but it comes from this simple place in my mind of just wanting to be with you, but the great thing about this is that i am with you. so i cant wait untill this summer and i am excited to start this part of our lives, i want you to be apart of every decision i make, i want you to be involved in any decision because this isnt just about me anymore, its about us. i thought about it last night and this morning i got a reassurance that i can finish this semester and it will work out, i can stay here and work, this is going to be difficult but i love you, and that has gotten me through worse situations so why wouldnt it get me through this? it makes me sad to think i might have to dissapoint my mom but i guess i just got to understand some deeper things with this and it will be hard but this has to happen for me, me staying here and doing what I want has to happen, i can still help her, but if i cant help myself first there is no way i can help her later. if i keep doing this and i finish school then i actually get a better job and make more money and i might actually have a future which can help her more than she sees right now. ok slight side note, last night, you said that you were going to be done with school by the time we get married, um when did that happen! i thought you still had so much time but i am so happy that you are going to be done so you can start doing something you actually want to do, this just means if nothing else i need to get my butt in gear so we dont have to stay here after you graduate because i know you want to do your masters somewhere else, but lets be honest, we can deal with that maybe after this summer. So let me tell you my game plan, finish this semester and do well in school, but at the same i am going to love you and make this relationship so much better than it already is, and work on just continuing to build this amazing relationship we already have, and i just want to make you happy. i'm going to keep my two jobs and just do macy's part time and on the weekend so i dont drive myself crazy. but adam i am going to do this, because i can do this, i just get a little scared sometimes and i am allowed to, but i just want to be better, and i want you to know i love you and i cant live my life without you, so we are going to do this together. i am so thankful i have you in my life and that was a big part of my converstaion last night with Him and part of this morning as well, He knows what we are doing and He knows i'm scared, so its ok, i just got the nudge to keep going. but thank you for last night and always being patient with me, some days i dont know how i got this lucky, and its hard for me to see through all the temporal mess somedays but its still there, i love you.

ok...so that was alot, um just so you know there in a kid two seats in front me who is wearing croc's sandels with socks, all i have to say is you are lucky i cant put him on your team :)
